NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - On a small but functional soundstage, Anabolic owner Christopher Alexander is directing The Gangbang Girl 37, the latest edition of his company’s signature line.
“The fans are hungry for a gangbang,” he tells me. That’s why he’s returning behind the camera for the first time in over a year.
Anabolic’s gangbangs are like no others. Each is an event, with a loose scenario, actual sets, many acrobatic sex acts, and the kind of girls who enjoy what they’re doing.
It was The Gangbang Girl #1, with Trixie Tyler, that put Anabolic on the map back in the early ‘90s, so a lot of time and effort is spent on their production. The series is still the gold standard for this particular genre.
But there hasn’t been a new volume for over three years. The first half of Vol. 37—each edition has two long scenes—with Chanel Chavez and 12 men, was shot well over a year ago. The second act is about to take place.
Some of the biggest names in porn have worn The Gangbang Girl title with pride. To be added to their number today are Russian-American Maya Hills and Chinese-born Niya Yu. They will have 15 partners.
The setup is a sushi bar where the waitresses feel they aren’t being paid enough. So they supplement their tips by providing raw flesh to a bunch of guys, the kind who are always hanging out looking for something to screw. The Japanese restaurant set features platters of real sushi.
Around noon there’s still no one around except for Anabolic’s hard-working crew and Niya Yu, who’s getting the glamour treatment from a makeup artist.
Niya is a native of Taipei who lives in the Eastern U.S. and flies into L.A. periodically to make videos. She’s appeared in about 50 scenes so far, mostly internet content. She says she does gang bangs privately, for fun, so she’s looking forward to the action today.
“I’m really excited right now,” she says with a grin. “I’m pretty freaky in my personal life.” Then she adds, “My family’s very conservative. They’d better not find out I’m doing this.”
Niya had emailed Alexander some photos and he liked what he saw. Later, he tells me, “She has the proper attitude for today’s project. We’re fulfilling her fantasy, so it’s all good.”
Anabolic shoots everything in widescreen Hi Definition video. Today isn’t just some guys with hand-helds—though there a couple: Anabolic director Ivan, and actor Chris Evans, who is shooting the BTS. The main camera is an expensive Sony Hi-Def, mounted on a jib, manned by high profile industry lensman (and 2008 AVN Hall of Fame inductee) Jake Jacobs.
Niya, still in the makeup room, pulls out a small pink toy and excuses herself. “I want to put a buttplug in and warm up my ass.” The “first penetration,” she says, hurts, “but once it’s in it feels good.”
All the men will be wearing Anabolic t-shirts—one of porn’s most familiar brand items. Tony T., another Anabolic director, hands them out as the men arrive. He is working strictly behind the scenes today as production manager.
First to show up is Otto Bauer, followed by a pair of Euros, the German Steve Holmes and his French pal Ian Scott, and then another German, Chris Charming. Jay Ashley arrives with longtime companion Aurora Snow, herself a former Gangbang Girl in Vol. 33.
The other men are John Strong, Brian Pumper, Trent Soluri, Alec Knight, James Deen, Jenner, Jon Jon, Justin Long, Will Powers, CJ Wright.
Su, Alexander’s wife and production partner, has brought in a deli lunch. With a true woman’s touch, she’s included a large portion of fresh pineapple, said to sweeten the taste of semen. Much cum will be swallowed by the end of the day.
Before the banging comes the box—the all-important cover art and promotional stills. The Anabolic photographer spends a great deal of time shooting the two women being lightly pawed by the men.
The girls are beaming and clearly eager to roll. “I’m a good slut,” says Maya Hills—a fact well known by anyone who’s followed the career of the exotic looking blonde and 2008 AVN Best Starlet nominee.
Alexander, on a ladder, directs the box cover shoot, hard and soft and soft versions. He is a meticulous director who will shoot over and over to make sure it’s done right. Justly proud of the brand he created, he has weekly meetings with his staff directors to discuss “how to make an Anabolic movie, as opposed to an anybody else’s movie.”
About the projects he directs himself, like this one, he confesses, “I’m always happiest when it’s done.”
The action today, he says, will break down into four “rounds.” The Oral Round, Vaginal Round, Anal Round and D.P. Round. Both girls will be doing the full gamut—they wouldn’t have been cast had they wanted to pick and choose.
I have to leave before all that action starts, but a few days later I get an email from Niya Yu from her home back east. “This shoot completely fulfilled by fantasy. It was my first time to enjoy DP and anal in the gangbang environment. I am an exhibitionist and experimentalist at heart, so all this was such a turn-on to me.”
It should also be a turn-on for Anabolic fans, who’ll be getting first peek at it this week.
