Memphis Strip Club Forced to Close

On Thursday, a Memphis judge ordered controversial gentlemen's club Black Tail Shake Joint to close for ten months. Memphis' WHBQ News reported that the club's owner, Jerry Westlund, was told by the judge that he could either "sell the club or reopen and follow the law after the 10-month period is over."

City officials told WHBQ that Westlund had indicated he would sell the club.

Following an investigation, city prosecutors filed a petition to have the club closed in August 2006, claiming over 30 incidents of drugs and prostitution.

According to WHBQ, in November 2006, the club was fined "more than $26,000 by the city's beer board. And in July 2006, a man was shot outside the club after an argument."

The club was also closed under its previous management for violating public nuisance laws.
