Memphis Official Caught in Strip Club Scandal

The city council board stripped Alcohol Board Chairman Reginald French of his title on Tuesday for accepting illegal campaign contributions from strip clubs. According to a recent news report, a gentlemen’s club sting called "Operation Last Call" uncovered a list of Alcohol Board violations.

Memphis’ Action News 5 obtained the lengthy list of Alcohol Board violations including those of Platinum Plus, a local strip club which showed a pattern of paying fines to keep its doors open.

Reporter Kontji Anthony took the results to Councilman Sammons.

"I suspect the operators of these clubs find it's cheaper to pay the fine and just continue as if it's the cost of doing business," he told Sammons.

According to Action News 5, records show Platinum Plus did not go one year without a violation.

"I think the fact that there hadn't been any citations written over the last two years is reflective of the fact that our police department has been involved in a serious undercover operation for the last 24 months," continued Sammons.

The Platinum Plus violations involved the regulation of nudity and sexual activities, as well as serving beer to minors and hiring underage dancers.

Action News 5 reported that the Memphis mayor has not appointed a replacement for French.
