Mary Carey Kicks Off Gubernatorial Run in San Diego

The kick off to starlet Mary Carey’s 2006 run for California Governor started at San Diego State University on Wednesday. Speaking in front of hundreds of college students, Carey announced her write-in candidacy, her “Shock the Vote Tour” and her efforts to raise political awareness among young voters who feel disenfranchised with the current political system.

The event opened up with a speech by Dave Cummings, a longtime Free Speech activist and adult performer. Urging students to not only register to vote but to actually get out to the polls on election day, Cummings emphasized the importance of keeping politicians away from altering the United States Constitution and protecting precious freedoms that are under attack from zealous political forces.

Soon after, Carey took the podium and fielded questions from students as well as the local media. The starlet outlined her platform and discussed the issues she feels most impassioned about: implementing greater hybrid fuel technology to improve the environment, full funding of California’s education system and balancing California’s budget.

After a raffle for a free Sirius Sattelite Radio receiver and subscription and other prizes, Carey posed for pictures with students, signed photos, and handed out voter registration forms.

Carey said that the kick off event was a resounding success, and that she’ll continue campaigning in the next few weeks at California college campuses across the state.
