Maleflixxx Pledges Support for World AIDS Day

On International World AIDS Day (Dec. 1), $1 from every rental at Maleflixxx’s global network will be donated to support AIDS treatment in Africa, the company announced.

“All of the proceeds raised by this initiative will be donated to a registered charity that works to support grassroots, community-based organizations and initiatives in their fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa,” says Eric Johnson, president of Sureflix Digital Distribution, owner of Maleflixxx. “The work of these organizations directly impacts the livelihoods of people and entire communities that are being devastated.”

The money donated by Maleflixxx will be used to provide gloves and surgical knives to midwives in Africa to reduce the rate of mother-to-child transmission, bicycles to increase the ability of HIV/AIDS educators to reach rural villages, and small loans that support the creation of small businesses designed to provide an ongoing source of income and a means to afford needed medications.

“HIV/AIDS knows no boundaries of color, race, or sexual preference,” Johnson says. “World AIDS Day is about people getting the facts. As members of the gay adult entertainment industry, we believe that education, financial assistance, and open communications are important tools in fighting this terrible disease. This is our way of working toward a worldwide goal.”

The United Nations estimates that there are 38 million adults and 2.3 million children living with HIV. During 2005, 4.9 million people became infected with the virus. Nearly half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 years old and are killed by AIDS before they reach 35.

Started in 1988, World AIDS Day is not just about raising money, but also about increasing awareness, education and fighting prejudice.
