Mainstream Media Goes Deep(er) with Porn Star Click Bait

LOS ANGELES—Mainstream media’s fascination with all things pornographic continues, with MensHealth.com and Bustle.com each recently providing friendly coverage of a total of 10 female and one male performer deemed especially worthy of comment and promotion.

MensHealth.com focuses on the salacious, asking each of its six chosen few to share their most outrageous on-set experience. Entitled “6 Porn Stars Reveal the Most Insane Things That Have Happened While Filming,” every tale involves an embarrassing body fluid or function moment.

Stories range from the mundane, with Mercedes Carrera reporting repeated cumshots to her eyes, to the more extreme, with Casey Calvert reminiscing about the day some “butt jelly” went flying into a still photographer’s eye, Derrick Pierce explaining what a sea sponge can do to a penis, and Daisy Ducati remembering when a day’s worth of silicone lube made a surprise exit.

Also sharing intimate stories with sociologist and porn industry expert Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals,  author of Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment, are Tanya Tate and Mindi Mink.

Carrera said, "I am so excited that Dr. Chauntelle included me in this piece. It was a great opportunity to tell a funny story, and give my fans insight into the real and messy life of a porn actress on set. I also loved reading all of the other stories by the other performers."

Taking a higher-brow approach, Bustle.com’s “7 Best Female Porn Stars You Need To Know About, Like Yesterday, Because Jessica Drake Should Be On Your Must-Watch List,” praises not only the sexual but non-sexual accomplishments of its featured performers.

The article proclaims, “This new generation of female porn stars is smart, quick-witted, and are challenging misconceptions. They’re even making sex education videos.” The site introduces readers to India Summer, Jessica Drake, Dana Vespoli, Chanel Preston, Kelly Madison, Mindi Mink and Casey Calvert, with commentary by various industry observers.
