Kevin Beechum of K-Beech Video, Inc. has promoted two of his top salesmen. Effective immediately, Dusty Urban will oversee the company’s Cherry Boxxx division, while Ray Burke moves into Urban’s former slot as head of BackEnd Productions.
Urban has been with K-Beech since the company’s launch in August 1988. He replaces the recently-departed Allen Gold in the new position. “Cherry Boxxx continues to grow, and the Pornomation line is among our biggest sellers,” he said. “I’d like to take the Cherry Boxxx line and put a little more zap into it, like I did with BackEnd.”
Urban’s new responsibilities include handling the harder Cherry X line, with 20 titles including the Latin young-girl line Chol-Ho’s and the all-lesbian Licking Pussy 12 Ways. Urban is also brokering a back catalogue encompassing hundreds of titles from four-hour compilations to ethnic fare and niche titles focusing on anal, teen, nurse, cheerleader and lesbian themes. “I also have an imported line from Europe called Killergram,” Urban said. “It’s extremely hardcore, with soft and hard boxes for the shelf. I’m thinking about bringing back red boxes, so anybody who wants to give feedback on that idea is welcome to contact me.”
“What I want to bring to the table is knowledge of what kind of stuff does well at a retail level,” said Burke, a 20-year veteran of the video business whose resume includes sales work for General Video and MCM Entertainment. “I’ve been here at K-Beech for 14 years; my main responsibility is handling the Family Video chain. I do all the ordering and ship their 450 stores, and will continue working in that capacity while running BackEnd. As I’ve said before, the bottom line is that if your titles do well on a retail level, then distributors will have to carry them. Kevin Beechum has been talking about doing some more feature stuff with somewhat of a storyline for BackEnd, which works out well for me because that’s the kind of stuff I get into with Family Video.”
In the past, BackEnd’s major releases have included the Teanna Kai vehicle Teanna Takes Cock and Dress for Sex with Kirsten Price. “We’ll be doing at least one release a week,” Burke said. “I have a feature starring Teanna Kai coming out at this year’s AVN show called The Teacher. We’re planning to do more movies in that series.”
