Joe Gallant's AVE. X Selected For NYU Library Archive

Director Joe Gallant's experimental porn feature AVE. X (VCA Pictures) has been selected for inclusion in New York University's Fales Collection, a permanent archive which includes rare works by William S. Burroughs, Kathy Acker, Thurston Moore, Patti Smith, Nick Zedd and many others.

Focusing on the work of avant-garde, "downtown" artists, The Fales Collection houses finished works and early drafts spanning three decades. In addition to Gallant's feature, the collection has also accepted sound design and music elements from AVE. X, several of the director's orchestral and chamber music scores, experimental super-8 films, cable TV shows, and chapters from Gallant's forthcoming book.

"Ave. X sits firmly in the crosshairs of experimental film and punk porn," said Fales Collection archivist Ron Kolm. "The innovative use of super-8 film and extended techniques within a postmodern political landscape make AVE. X a natural choice. Mr. Gallant has been known as a 'downtown' artist for many decades, and we're happy to include his work."

Ron Kolm is an established New York writer and founder of "The Unbearables" writing collective. He assisted with the production of the acclaimed new NYU Press anthology, "Up is Up But So is Down", which includes works by many of the Fales Collection writers and artists. "Up is Up" was conceived and edited over several years by New York writer Brandon Stosuy.
