In results similar to both the AVN Awards and the XRCO awards, Evil Angel earned more of the Adam Film World's 2002 Movie Awards than any other company with a total of sixteen awards received. John Stagliano's The Fashonistas once again led the way, pulling in eight awards, including Best Film and Best Director- Film for Stagliano.
The awards are voted on by the editorial staff of Adam Film World. AFW has given out awards for over two decades to honor the adult videos, films, DVDs, and performers they feel merit recognition.
"The thing that is interesting this year is that AVN, XRCO, and Film World agreed pretty much on a lot of the same things," Jeremy Stone, Editor-in-Chief of Adam Film World told AVN.com. "Whenever they ask me 'Why do you think that is?' I just think its because its really clearly defined what the best is sometimes. How can Fashionistas not win?"
The winners of the 2002 Movie Awards were published in the April issue of the magazine, now out on stands. The winners were given statues to commemorate their distinction and sent a copy of the magazine.
Red Light District and Elegant Angel each won four awards, with Private, JM Productions, and Wicked Pictures each winning three.
For the first time ever, two Hero awards, created to recognize individuals who have fought for the rights of the adult entertainment industry, were given. Jeff Mike of JM Productions and Seymore Butts were both given the honor for fighting obscenity cases last year.
This year Adam Film World created a new award, Best Directrix, to honor the woman they feel is currently the best female director in adult entertainment. Mason, who's Lady Fellatio and Mason's Dirty Trixx were critically acclaimed, won the honor. "It was easy to add the category of Directrix when somebody who so clearly defines excellence in pornography from a woman's perspective as Mason does is around," said Stone.
