Digital Playground Adopts Day/Date Release Schedule for Blu-ray

VAN NUYS, Calif. - Digital Playground announced today that it will release all new titles simultaneously on standard DVD and Blu-ray disc.

"The Blu-ray market is growing and we've seen a steady growth in sales," company co-founder Joone told AVN. "It's mainly due to the fact that the format war is over and people are no longer waiting to buy players."

"The fourth quarter of 2008 is going to be huge for Blu-ray sales," added Digital Playground CEO Samantha Lewis. "Technology industry sources predict Blu-ray players to drop in price by $100. Many people will receive their first Blu-ray player during the holiday season, and then will rush out to buy any title they can get their hands on.  Our goal is to make sure that all of our titles are readily available for purchase."

Digital Playground committed to shooting in hi-def four years ago and plans to release one catalog title on Blu-ray each week. As of June 13, the company will have released 21 Blu-ray titles - three times more than any other adult studio.

The company's aggressive push into the hi-def market has yielded strong results. Digital Playground's Pirates ranks as Adult DVD Empire's #1 best-selling Blu-ray disc of all time. The studio also holds the #1 spot on Adult DVD Empire's current Blu-ray charts with Robby D's Cheerleaders.

"I think it's great that Digital Playground has made all their Blu-ray releases day and date with their standard DVD releases," said Shannon, editorial director for Adult DVD Empire. "This is something no mainstream studio has done yet, so it's an event quite noteworthy for the future of the Blu-ray format."

"Digital Playground has established itself as the best adult studio for Blu-ray in terms of video and audio quality," said Shannon. "Adult customers should be very excited about them going day and date on Blu-ray, since those who have upgraded to this new hi-def format will no longer have to play the "waiting game" with new adult titles-they will be available to them on day one."
