Couple Prosecuted for Shooting Porn at WWI Memorial

ARRAS, France — A French couple has been given a four-month suspended prison sentence for shooting video of themselves engaging in sexual acts at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.

Unveiled in 1936 by King Edward VIII, the memorial was constructed to honor the many Canadian soldiers slain in 1917's Battle of Vimy Ridge. According to the Telegragh, the couple who shot the sex video on the site then posted it online to be viewed for a fee.

The two were fined £400 ($798) each as well as a symbolic one euro ($1.57) in damages to be paid to Canada. Authorities involved in the case said such incidents have been occurring on a more and more regular basis.

"It is a problem which appears to be getting worse," said an Arras police spokesperson. "People appear to get a perverse pleasure out of this behavior."

At least two American porn series has tapped into this unique brand of exhibitionism: Adventure Sex, distributed by Hustler Video, and Adam & Eve Pictures' Sex Across America. Scenes between the two series have taken place at such historical landmarks as Mt. Rushmore, the "grassy knoll" of JFK's assassination site, Woodstock and Plymouth Rock.

Still, no one has yet deigned to try shooting porn on the desk of the Oval Office ... that we know of.
