LOS ANGELES—Aurora Snow knows the power of the pen. The adult star has expanded her writing repertoire with a piece titled “Confessions of a Porn MILF” featured on TheDailyBeast.com.
Lamenting on being pigeonholed as a MILF, despite only being 28, Snow describes her transition from “barely legal” star to one that’s a little more seasoned.
“Ten years ago, I was one of adult film’s hottest stars,” she said. “Now I’m 28—and dismissed by directors as over the hill. How did I go from ‘barely legal’ to ‘older woman’ so fast?”
During those 10 years Snow has become quite a decorated performer. In 2003, she won an AVN Award for Performer of the Year, the industry’s highest honor for a female performer.
Snow, who had initially promised herself to stay in porn only a year, decided to stick with it after finding out how lucrative it was.
“A thespian at heart, I enjoyed the performances more than I expected, and soon shed the promise I made to myself to leave the industry within a year,” Snow said. “I had been a shy, conservative girl with more book smarts than street smarts. But in porn, I was a star. I discovered the free spirit within, embraced the experience, and marked the beginning of a very unexpected career.”
But then, after more than a decade in the business, the youthful star became the older woman.
“I showed up on a set one day and was told I would be playing a MILF,” she said. “Seemingly overnight, I’d gone from teen sensation to an actress who plays … sexy moms? It was shocking, to say the least.”
Despite her initial distress, Snow turned it into a positive, rationalizing, that she “would be able to produce new videos in a niche market previously unavailable to me. What better way to broaden the fan base? There is something for everyone in porn, a niche that appeals to each fantasy and taste. I had obviously hit the teen market hard, but those who watch the young-girl lines are unlikely to also watch the MILF-series lines. I began to see it as an opportunity to create new fans.”
