On Friday morning at 8:20, the first porn Fan gets in line for the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo. Actually, he is the line at this point, but that will all change soon. At high noon, the Expo is opened up to the general public, the fans, the civilians. They’ve been waiting patiently for hours for access to their favorite adult stars, waiting for the chance to get steeped in the exotic, forbidden world of unbridled erotica.
Come high noon, the people stream in, wide-eyed and ready to devour what the Expo has to feed them. But it’s not only civilians, there are porn stalwarts making the scene as well. AVN Award-winning director Paul Thomas was among the crowd, as was talent like Nicki Hunter, Nautica Thorn, Mark Wood, Tommy Gunn and director Holly Randall.
On the floor, the basic mood was controlled mayhem, as groups of amateur lensmen intermingled with cable news teams and God knows who else, all crowding around booths offering bodacious triple X lasses baring as much as they could, given the no-nip, no-pink restrictions. Even the City of Sin has its limits, apparently.
“Business is booming,” offered Francesca Le, beautiful co-owner/operator of LeWood Productions (with hubby Mark Wood), situated at the Juicy/Exquisite Pleasure booth. “The fans are wonderful, and I love that I get a chance to meet them, and give something back.” Sexy Nautica Thorn was also at the booth enveloped by photographers and autograph hounds. “It’s going good,” she said. “There’s a lot of really gorgeous fans I wanna fuck.” Will that actually happen? “Probably not, because I’m a shit talker. But it’s okay because I’ll go home and use my vibrator and get off anyway!” Tally-ho.
Dolly Montoya and Daryl Jenkins are longtime industry folks; they own two adult stores, A View To Video, in Oxnard, California (“We call ourselves the Blockbuster of adult,” said Montoya) and have attended virtually every AVN Expo. They’re digging the show.

“Other than not having alcohol in here, I have no complaints,” offered Montoya.
“It seems like everybody is showing up now, in the past it seemed like not everybody did, but they’re all here and they’re all pushing their product,” Jenkins stated. “You can pretty much find anything you’re looking for. It’s unified.”
“We love coming here,” added Montoya. “This is our vacation.”
Meanwhile, downstairs in cavernous Hall G of the Sands Expo Center, the B2B section of the massive event was taking place. Seemingly miles of booths housed companies of all stripes from the novelty world. The Som concern displayed their revolutionary hands-free masturbation machine; a jacking, human-like hand pumped liked a piston, presumably bringing the consumer to solo orgasmic heaven.
Wandering among the corridors of booths, one encountered all manner of things sexual: toys, dildos, vibrators, S&M gear, Hallmark-style greeting cards (“Doc, I can’t see shit. Love is blind on Valentines Day) lubes and much more. At Back Alley Industries, a variety of t-shirts were for sale, including the popular Hello Titty model.
An impressive display of leather and chains and other daring sex accoutrement was displayed at the Stockroom booth, where wholesale representative Ann-Marie Holman presided.
“It’s been great,” she said of B2B thus far. “We have three booths this year, which is the first year we’ve done that. Here, upstairs [at he AVN Adult Entertainment Expo], and at Internext. It’s a three-pronged attack, mixing formats. We thought purposes might have been severely limited, but a lot of people have different interests, and it’s exciting.”
Back upstairs, “exciting” hardly describes the frenzy at the Black Label Pictures booth (John E. Depth’s new company), where big butt fans are agog over the respective read ends of Sydnee Capri and Luscious Lopez.
“Basically I’m spending the entire convention bending over,” said dusky, Mexican/Native American/Irish beauty Lopez. “I wish I had a couch so I wouldn’t have to keep turning around.
“The ass display is amazing. Outstanding,” offered a worshipful chap named Lee, a Vegas local, staring at the Lopez and Capri keesters. “I’ve used two rolls of film on these two already.” A perfect summation of the fabulous excess from fans and stars alike at the Expo, where the good times continued to roll as Friday rolled down.
