DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Verizon Wireless has reconciled with mobile content provider Myxer after imposing an eight-month ban on the service for offering adult content.
Myxer.com features downloads of ringtones, videos, games, wallpaper and entertainment for mobile devices. Last year, Verizon claimed the company was distributing unlicensed and pornographic material.
"These guys were banned for inappropriate content, specifically on two fronts," Verizon Wireless spokesman Jeffrey Nelson told RSS Wireless News. "One, they were purposing content that wasn't theirs; they didn't own it or have rights to it in the first place. Secondly, they were pushing porno. That is not the case now."
Mxyer Vice President of Marketing Steve Spiro dismissed the porn charges as false, while Verizon had no additional comment.
"‘Pushing porno' seems like a pretty incredible statement," Spiro said. "We review every single piece of wallpaper that comes to the site. Anything that's, in their words, 'porno,' never gets into our catalog whatsoever."
Mxyer doesn't appear to offer any adult content, other than bikini-girl wallpaper featuring the likes of ex-Vivid girl Kira Kener.
Myxer launched in 2005 and claims 4 to 5 million monthly uniques, passing 15 million users last November.
