Suspected Killer of Secret Internet Starlet Arrested

EL DORADO, Kan. — Israel Mireles, 24, the man suspected of killing Kansas college student Emily Sander, a.k.a. adult internet model Zoey Zane, was captured today in Melchor Muzquiz, Mexico, according to the Associated Press.

Mireles is being held there until he can be extradited to the United States, said U.S. Deputy Marshal Logan Kline. A news conference is scheduled in El Dorado at 3 p.m.

Sander, who was an 18-year-old student at Butler Community College, was last seen alive Nov. 23 leaving the Retreat Bar in El Dorado with Mireles. The bar is about a mile and a half from the El Dorado Motel, where Mireles had been staying since beginning work at a nearby Italian restaurant as a waiter several months earlier.

When Mireles' boss came looking for him after he failed to show up to work the following day, the motel room was found in disarray and spattered with blood. Sander's body was found the following Thursday, Nov. 29, about 50 miles east of El Dorado, along with a bedspread that had been missing from the motel room.

Mireles reportedly has a criminal record in Texas that includes convictions for illegal possession of weapons, hunting from a vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Investigators have said that Sander's double life as Zoey Zane, which was unknown to most friends and family until after her disappearance, had no connection to her death.
