Report: Social Networks Draw 41 Percent of Mobile Web Traffic

OSLO, Norway - According to a quarterly report released by Opera, a creator of mobile Web browsers, 41 percent of mobile Web traffic using Opera software goes to social networks.

Social networks drew more than 63 percent of Opera Mini browser traffic in the U.S., the report states.

About 12 million people worldwide used Opera Mini to visit about 2.4 billion websites in the first quarter of 2008, making the mobile Web browser the most popular, with 33 million megabytes of data traffic.

Full Web surfing, opposed to scaled-down WAP or .mobi destinations, accounted for more than 77 percent of mobile Web traffic, according to the quarterly "State of the Mobile Web" report.

MySpace, Facebook, Google, Yahoo and MocoSpace were the mobile Web destinations most frequently visited by U.S. Opera Mini users.
