SAN FRANCISCO - Attendees at the Cybernet Expo, set for June 10-12 at the Golden Gateway Hotel in San Francisco, will have a chance to visit the new Kink.com studios in the historic Armory building.
Kink.com, one of the world's largest BDSM entertainment networks, will host the industry-only tour, which will feature live performances on themes showcasing Kink's websites. Costumed guides will lead guests through the San Francisco Armory building, which Kink.com acquired at the end of 2006.
"The Armory is more than just a gorgeous building," said Peter Acworth, founder and CEO of Kink.com. "It holds a world of history. Our conversion of the Armory from a military site into a sex-positive and kink-positive entertainment studio can send a powerful message that personal liberation helps create a safe, sane and productive society. This is a chance to celebrate that with our affiliates and other industry partners attending Cybernet, while showing off the castle that we at Kink get to work in!"
Built from 1912-1914 as a U.S. National Guard arsenal to replace a building destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, the Armory is one of San Francisco's most notable buildings and is a Class 2 Landmark in the National Register of Historic Places.
In addition to its military duties, the building served as a venue for 1920s prizefights, a rehearsal and set-construction space for the San Francisco Opera and as a spaceship-interior set for Star Wars.
Now hosting Kink.com's administrative offices and dozens of evocative shooting environments, as well as an interior drill court the size of a football field, the 200,000-square-foot Armory is quickly becoming a legend on the scale of Hugh Hefner's 21,987-square-foot Playboy Mansion.
The private event, titled "Make Porn Not War," will be open only to registered Cybernet Expo attendees.
