SACRAMENTO—The International Entertainment Adult Union (IEAU) and the San Francisco Medical Society maintain in a filed writ that they were falsely listed by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) in arguments submitted for California’s official voter guide as supporters of Proposition 60, the bill set to appear on the state’s November general election ballot that would mandate the use of condoms in adult productions statewide.
The two groups were mentioned as supporting the initiative in the Rebuttal to Argument Against Prop 60, which was filed by AHF with the California Secretary of State’s office for inclusion in the voter guide.
“The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is at it again,” stated Eric Paul Leue, campaign manager for Prop 60 opposition group Californians Against Worker Harassment, a political action committee sponsored by the Free Speech Coalition (FSC). “They haven’t been able to secure actual support so they’re manufacturing it. This is part of a long history of AHF misrepresentation on this dangerous and regressive initiative, and in their unrelenting attacks on performers. We’re glad these groups caught this in time for their names to be removed. Shame on AHF.”
Groups that have come out against Prop 60 include the California Democratic Party, the California Republican Party, the Los Angles Gay and Lesbian Center, Equality California, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Adult Performers Advocacy Committee (APAC).
Arguably the most contested part of the proposition is the authority it grants any California resident to sue anyone, including performers, with a financial interest in an adult production that does not comply with the condom requirement.
“Every day, we hear from people and organizations opposing this initiative. Even those who once considered supporting it in principle, are deserting in droves once they find out that it encourages lawsuits against the performers themselves,” Leue said.
