Texas City Passes Adult Business Ordinance

The City Council on Monday approved an ordinance banning lap dances and restricting business hours as part of an effort aimed at what it calls “the secondary effects” of adult businesses.

The ordinance bans alcohol sales at adult businesses and would force them to close by 10 p.m. instead of 2 a.m. as is now allowed, The Star-Telegram reported.

The city has no adult businesses, but council members have said they want to restrict how they would operate should any move to the city.

Residents recently brought up the issue after a business called Condoms on the Go, made inquiries about moving here.

The measure would also requires adult businesses to be a minimum 1,000 feet from churches, schools, libraries and other buildings where families and children would gather. Business managers must have full view of the entire sales floor to prevent sex acts within their stores under the measure. Tipping would only be allowed through a jar or other receptacle and exotic dancers must remain six feet away from patrons.

Businesses are also required to obtain a $750 license from the city.
