Let Our People Speak!

Sen. Brownback:

It was disappointing to learn that the Adult Freedom Foundation is precluded from presenting witnesses at tomorrow's hearing on "Obscenity Prosecution and the Constitution."

As you know AFF and other First Amendment groups called and e-mailed your office Monday voluteering to provide expert witnesses with insight into the Adult Entertainment industry.

We were told that the witnesses had already been selected and no other witnesses would be allowed to testify in person.

AFF finds our lack of participation distressing because the Adult Entertainment industry is most affected by First Amendment issues scheduled for discussion at the hearing.

This is the second hearing, the first being last November, where the Adult Entertainment industry was unrepresented by its expert witnesses.

Furthermore, the witnesses selected for tomorrow's hearing are either former prosecutors or individuals who have expressed a bias towards adult material. Thus, the selection of these witnesses creates the impression that a particular result is being sought by the committee rather than the objective evidence the American people are entitled to regarding such important issues.

AFF is hopeful that you will correct these shortcomings and seek objective testimony on these very important issues.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Paul J. Cambria, Jr.

General Counsel
