Koppenhaver Ordered Returned to Nevada at Court Hearing

VENTURA, Calif.—Jonathan Koppenhaver, aka War Machine, who was arrested Friday in Simi Valley on warrants issued by Las Vegas Metro police for the alleged assault of Christy Mack and Corey Thomas August 8 in Las Vegas, appeared in a Ventura courtroom yesterday, where he was ordered returned to Nevada, KTLA has reported.

The channel added that during a hearing that lasted a few minutes, “Koppenhaver signed his extradition papers.” He was being held on a felony charge related to his fugitive status.

Cameras were not allowed in the courtroom, KTLA added, but outside Brandon Sua, an attorney for Koppenhaver, told the media, “The hardest thing for my client is seeing the responses from the media, the public. There’s been a lot of statements on one side. The media has done a good job of painting my client as a monster, but my client is not a monster. He is a good guy.”

Adding that his client is concerned about how he is being depicted publicly, Sua said that Koppenhaver would issue a statement of his own “when the time is right.” KLTA added that Sua maintained that his client did not do “anything illegal.”

Koppenhaver reportedly faces serious jail time in Nevada. According to Syracuse.com, "Prosecutors in Las Vegas filed multiple felony battery, assault and coercion charges that could get Koppenhaver a total of more than 25 years in prison if he is convicted. He also faces a misdemeanor lewdness count involving the groping of Mack."
