Koppenhaver Now Faces Attempted Murder, Kidnapping Charges

LAS VEGAS, Nevada—Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, aka War Machine, who was extradited to Las Vegas over the Labor Day weekend, appeared in a Las Vegas court today, where prosecutors added more charges to the ones he already faces for the alleged Aug. 8 assaults perpetrated against former adult performer Christy Mack and her friend, Corey Thomas.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, new charges include "allegations of attempted murder and sexual assault stretching over the course of more than a year," which Chief Deputy District Attorney Jacqueline Bluth indicated "stem back as far as May 2013."

In fact, the former MMA fighter now faces more than three times the number of charges than were originally levied against him. "Koppenhaver, who originally faced nine charges, now faces 32 counts, including attempted murder, sexual assault, battery, coercion, preventing or dissuading a witness or victim from reporting a crime, and first-degree kidnapping resulting in substantial bodily harm," reported the paper. "The new charges also involve Mack and Thomas as the victims."

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said the new charges were added after further investigations revealed more “incidents of criminal conduct.”

He added, “It’s a serious case. We’ve alleged serious charges. The accusations are serious.”

Koppenhaver, who is scheduled back in court Oct. 17, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
