Irish Sex Shop Owner Fined After Police Raid

An adult shop owner in the Northern Ireland capital was fined 546 Euro after authorities seized over 300 unclassified and restricted DVDs. A Belfast Magistrates' Court fined Christopher Street, owner of Misstique, for violations of the Video Recordings Act.

Authorities visited Hallam’s shop as part of a probe into adult entertainment outlets in downtown Belfast.

The Video Recordings Act, passed in 1984, mandates that all video titles for sale must be stamped with a proper classification. Businesses that sell R18 titles must carry a license to do so.

According to authorities, Hallam was not in possession of such a license and pleaded guilty to eight charges under the Act.
