Florida City Passes Adult Zoning Ordinance

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Despite the fact that there are currently no strip clubs in St. Augustine, city commissioners approved a zoning ordinance on Monday that would restrict adult entertainment to certain areas of the city.

The city's first attempt at an adult entertainment ordinance was scrapped in June, due to concerned residents who felt strip clubs would be able to locate too close to their homes. According to Jacksonville News 4, planners then drew up another ordinance that allows the clubs in more areas, but keeps them hundreds of feet away from parks, schools, churches and places that serve alcohol.

“[Adult clubs] still can only be in a commercial, medium-density area,” Mayor Joe Boles told Jacksonville News 4. “We're not allowing them in residential areas or commercial light density or mixed use. We can ban it citywide, except for some areas.”

Nobody has applied to open a strip club in the St. Augustine yet, but officials said they wanted to be proactive and issue restrictions now.
