Dutch Make Bestiality Illegal

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - The Dutch Parliament on Thursday voted unanimously to make sex with animals a crime, the Daily Telegraph reported.

It took two years of debate to reach the decision.

People having sex with animals or engaging in bestiality porn can now receive up to six months in jail if convicted.

Current Dutch law forbid bestiality only if the animals were mistreated in the process.

The pro-business VVD party and the Party for the Animals opposed the Bill but voted in favour anyway.

The Associated Press noted that animal pornography is explicitly forbidden in 80 countries and that pornographers had lobbied against the Dutch ban.

Dutch legistaltor Harm Evert Waalkens who introduced the bill to ban bestiality said, "The Netherlands is now a magnet for perversities and we don't want that."
