MONTREAL, QC—Joshua Dolgin, better known as the Canadian rapper and artist “Socalled,” who has recorded a series of albums including The So Called Seder: A Hip Hop Haggadah and Ghettoblaster, will debut his new film on September 27 at the Pop Montreal festival—and it's an explicit gay porn movie titled The Housesitter, which he filmed appropriately enough in his parents’ house while they were away for a monthlong vacation, the 40-year-old rapper revealed in an interview with Vice.
“They're super cool about everything,” Dolgin told the site, admitting he did not inform his parents in advance of his cinematic plan. “I mean, I think it's still sinking in with my dad, but he'll deal with it and I'm sure it'll be fine."
The rapper described the film as arty and sexy, according to the GayTourism site. It includes a scene in which the two characters play chess as foreplay to sex, as well as a dream sequence involving sex in the snow, snowshoes included, giving the film its distinctive Canadian flavor.
"I wanted this to be different," Dolgin said. "I mean, there's lots of hot images on Twitter that you can find very easily. But there's no montage, no music, no artistry. It's just some guys in the act. I wanted to make an indie porn, in the spirit of Toby Ross."
The film stars porn performer River Wilson, whom Dolgin met on the gay dating app Grindr. "We went out to a movie together and we really connected," Dolgin told Vice. “We both felt like it'd be a great idea to make a porn movie together. Not just any porn movie, but one that looks beautiful, in which the images have some integrity. I think people who make pornography have a responsibility."
Wilson’s co-star in the film is German porn performer Valentin Braun, seen most recently in the CockyBoys production Break Him In 2, according to Braun’s Internet Adult Film Database page.
"They both have beautiful bodies, but they are natural," Dolgin told Vice. "Yes, porn is fantasy, but I wanted the film to reflect reality and to be sexy."
