Interview: Roman Heart, GAYVN Best Newcomer

Canceling his first planned shoot because of nerves, his second shoot shut down because of a building permit problem... it's amazing that Roman Heart decided to stick with it.

"And then my first movie with Falcon, SuperSoaked... there was a fugitive running around the neighborhood in Palm Springs. There was a low-flying helicopter and police running by and we're by the pool naked," recalls Heart with a laugh. "I don't have very good luck, I guess."

His luck is clearly changing. The hard-working heartthrob made an instant impression last year, as his Super Soaked scene with Brent Everett picked up a Best Sex Scene nomination. Fans can thank industry vets Dante Foxx and Thomas Bond, friends of Heart's who encouraged him to give the business a try. "I was like, 'No, no, no! I can't!' I was really shy," Heart laughs again. "I'm glad I took this chance. People said I have the characteristics to go far in the business, and I didn't believe them at all. You look at porn and there are all these big muscle-guys. They're so beefed up. And it's hard because that's who you compare yourself to."

Last year he appeared in six films, including multiple-nominee smashes Heaven to Hell, Cross Country 1-2, and Getting It in the End. Heart credits Chi Chi LaRue and Falcon Promotions/ Events Manager Troy Prickett — along with his friends, castmates and crew — with helping make his career smooth. But while he shows the greatest poise in front of the camera, he admits to nerves when he was up on stage with his award.

"It's funny, because you can do porn movies and still have the worst stage fright. I had all these things I wanted to say," Heart says. "I just completely froze. I was just saying whatever was on my mind. I completely screwed the whole thing up!"

Currently appearing in Big Dick Club, Heart wants to focus on more challenging and central roles this year, as well as give more attention to dancing and promoting himself through his new website and more appearances.

"I don't want it to be a repeat of last year, where I just do a scene here and a scene there. I want fewer movies, but more scenes in them and more focus on me," he says. "I kind of want to push my boundaries, expand. I just did a photo shoot for this Japanese underwear company, and I want to do more things like that. I want to push those boundaries and try new things."
