Hall of Fame Inductee: Jake Andrews

It was the only time Jake Andrews complained to get his way.

For two years he'd hounded director John Rutherford, pleading to work with Falcon superstar Mike Branson. "I begged," says Andrews with a laugh. "Every time I would see John Rutherford, I would just go, 'Mike Branson, Mike Branson, Mike Branson…'"

It finally worked… with a catch. It was a threeway. "I was really upset because I wanted a one-on-one with him. I didn't want to share him with anybody, and at the end of the scene I hadn't got to do what I wanted to do with him," Andrews says. "I think it's the only time I've kind of stamped my foot a bit. I went up to John and said, 'I've been begging to work with this guy for two years, and he hasn't fucked me and I don't want to leave here until he fucks me.' I think we were preparing to do cum-shots, and I was just like, 'No, no, no… we haven't finished this by a long shot.'"

Rutherford went to Branson, who was flattered enough to oblige. The scene from Hot Wired turned into yet another scorching scene in Andrews' fast-growing library of work, a career that started in 1992 and is still going, a feat that earned him entry into the Hall of Fame at this year's GAYVN Awards.

"I never expected it," Andrews says. "I made an analogy of my career years ago. I was kind of like the John Malkovich of adult gay videos. People knew about me, but I was never someone like a Matthew Rush or a Mike Branson, at least from my perspective. It always seemed like everyone was always head over heels for those guys, and would be like, 'Oh, Jake Andrews, he's really nice too.' So it was nice to receive the award."

The bulk of Andrews' early work came with the Falcon Group. He appeared in hits like Billy's Tale (his first for the company), Deep End, The Other Side of Aspen 4, Chasers, and Abduction 2-3 — more than 20 titles in all.

"I was somebody they would pair up with the principal star of the video," says Andrews, adding he never actively sought out the work, but just went with the flow. "I've never been the one that they want to do the big layouts with and interview all the time. So I guess that's one of the things that kind of struck me as being really cool about getting the Hall of Fame award — I've outlasted all the others."

It was that attitude — and being sexy as hell — that helped Andrews thrive for so long. He took a break in 1998 after meeting the love of his life and moving to Australia, where the two currently live.

That distance helped dilute his popularity in his own mind. "Yeah, maybe I don't fully realize it," he says, pausing. "Maybe part of it is that I never fully immersed myself in the scene outside of videos. There was maybe always an element of mystery: 'Where does he live? Where is he from?' And I've actually kind of noticed a little bit more now that I live here in Sydney, this re-emergence is working well because I live so far away. Because they don't see me in the States, they don't see me at the big parties or walking down the street."

Andrews returned to the scene in 2002, when he appeared with Matthew Rush in Good as Gold, filmed in Australia. COLT Studio's Kristofer Weston then came calling for Couples 2, and Andrews has since appeared in BuckleRoos and Man Country with more to come. His rugged masculinity has found the perfect home at COLT, which will soon launch a COLT Man website for his fans.

"I believe Jake has had the longest running and most consistent career of anyone in front of the camera. I worked on his first movie during my first few movies at Falcon Studios," notes Rutherford. "Jake and I have remained in contact for many years after that and every time I saw him he looked better and better."

The award — which Andrews recently showed off to his excited straight friends at the gym — sits on his kitchen counter, right next to his other award, a Probe Men in Video Award from '98. "Hottest Hard Body," he says, then pauses, then laughs.

Andrews plans to do the occasional video when COLT calls, balancing his time with his busy schedule at school on his way to becoming an interior designer. "I'm hoping to be maybe as famous a designer as I was an adult video star, so I guess my goals right now are looking toward that kind of future. Something in design, something where I keep my clothes on," he says with a chuckle.
