Company Profile: 1R Media

The profile of Las Vegas-based 1R Media LLC is very much the profile of its president/ owner Afton Nills, because, "I do everything. I produce, cast, direct, edit, and DVD-author twenty-four scenes a week for 1R Media and Xtreme Productions. I'm a self-starter, one hundred percent into anything I do. I'd always been interested in the adult industry, although I did finally fall into it somewhat by accident. I was a representative for a pool/ spa group, then got work as art director on The Nightmare Room at Warner Brothers and moved from my native Anaheim to Valencia, California.

"Then after a year, 9/11 hit, and completely killed Hollywood. I was jobless and stressed. This seemed a good time to give XXX-moviemaking a try. Working in TV had taught me something of what goes on on a set. I knew I could do as good as what was out there, if not better. I got together with a buddy who had directing experience, shot a two-man movie called Summer Beach Getaway, and sold it to PornTeam, who introduced me to AVNS where I still distribute everything wholesale (my products retail online through PornTeam.com).

"I picked up a job as website developer for AllAmericanHeroes.com and AmateurStraightGuys.com for about a year, made a lot of industry contacts, and piled up funding. There have been six Afton Nills Academy Tryouts movies, and six Routine Check Ups issues. These are all sold under my Xtreme Productions label. Under the 1R Media label ('1R' was what my maiden aunt euphemistically called the penis) I do more plotted movies, such as Masquerade, A Holiday Tale, and a James Bond spoof called Iron Balls. In between, I do three all-sex twink movies a month.

"My bestsellers have been Blair Mason in Dirty Little Secrets and Sean Corwin in Bath House Fun. All my movies remain in print and continue to sell. It seems that customers who discover one want to catch up on all the others. Scenes from my movies can be seen on FuckThatTwink.com, TwinkBoardingSchool.com, and of course on 1RMedia.com."

Why the move to Las Vegas in 2005? "Well, one, I needed a change, and, two, the Adult Entertainment Expo happens here annually, which is a great way to make contacts, and, three, there's a talent base here a lot less jaded than in California. Although, technically, eighty percent of our talent is flown in from all over the country."

Nills works with a core group of models, "which keeps changing because they keep going back to school," he laughs. "Right now, our biggest sources of models are word-of-mouth and through the website of one of our stars, Sean Corwin.

"A fourth reason for shooting here is, I've established a relationship with the Blue Moon Resort Las Vegas, which lets us shoot all over its many splendid facilities in return for what you might call 'product placement,' as in Romance at the Blue Moon Resort, Getting It On at the Resort, and Return to the Blue Moon.

"I also do product placement and an ad on each video for Glyde Inc.'s LubeXXX lube, and I'm looking for a product placement deal with a condom manufacturer. We go through an awful lot of condoms."

The future? "Well, right now we're definitely an amateur company. I'm launching a pro-am line by enlisting some known, older, established stars to work with the boys. One of the challenges working with twinks is, they're not attracted to twinks, they like the older guys, so I'm hoping that this move will make their sexual performance even better. The pro-am line will be shot in HD to improve the technical quality, and be plotted, dramatized movies with a release every three months or so. I've brought in a talented writer, R.J. Tyler, to do my first pro-am movie, a sequel to Iron Balls, in which, for instance, producer/ director Jake Cruise may play the 'Q' character.

"Also, I'm enlisting an assistant director, Jared Rousseau, who helped me with Summer Beach Getaway. He's a genuine Hollywood director, although I'm not at liberty to give his true name. As for High Def, Blue Ray, iPod, etcetera, like most of the rest of the industry, I'm waiting for the public to decide what it wants, and then 1R Media will give it to them."
