Bijou Releases Two 1970s Classics on DVD

CHICAGO - Bijou Video has released two 1970s classics on DVD. Both Michael, Angelo and David and The Frenchman and the Lovers were released theatrically before being transferred to home video, and Bijou restored and digitally re-mastered both titles before encoding them on DVD.

Directed by Francis Ellie and released in 1976, Michael, Angelo and David stars David Savage as a young Italian visiting his uncle Michael and Michael's lover Angelo in New York. The movie follows young David's encounters after stepping off the boat and wandering the streets of the Big Apple. Looking for the famed Empire State Building, David meets Marc Stevens, who shows him the huge erection in his pants. David soon learns he can use what he has between his legs to get what he wants in America.

Eventually David makes his way to his uncle's home, just in time for a going-away orgy during which he again meets Marc, with whom he has fallen in love.

Ellie was a major voice in gay adult films of the late 1970s and early '80s, and Michael, Angelo and David demonstrates his penchant for sentimental, romantic stories. The film employs some tongue-in-cheek humor and makes use of many New York landmarks and the Italian cruise ship Leonardo DaVinci as settings.

The Frenchman and the Lovers,
first released in 1977, was directed by Tom DeSimone. Eric Clement leads the cast as a Frenchman who returns to the U.S. to visit an old flame - a porno photographer - and his new lover. Bob Blount portrays the photographer, and Dan Gentry is the new man in his life.

After Larry the photographer plows his old beau on a pool table, the Frenchman sets out to break up the lovers. To keep his relationship from breaking up, Larry gets one of his models to seduce the Frenchman, and he photographs the liaison. Unhappy lover Jim eventually gets even in the last scene.

Also in the cast are hairy beefcake Bob Damon, body builder Dan Pierce and Guy DeSilva. A review in Weekly Entertainment magazine upon the film's release described The Frenchman and the Lovers as a "skin-flick mystery with muscle."

Both films are available at the Bijou Video website and from select distributors of gay adult videos.
