Bijou Re-releases Gay S/M Classic

CHICAGO Bijou Video has re-released Marathon Films-Psycho Films’ Born to Raise Hell, a classic gay sadomasochism film the studio calls “the standard that all gay S/M films around the world are judged by.”

Lensed in 1974, the title is as hardcore and erotic today as it was when it debuted, a Bijou spokesman said. Born to Raise Hell is part of the film collection maintained by the New York Museum of Modern Art.

“The cast is introduced not by the conventional credit lines, but by their names tattooed on various parts of their bodies,” he said. “The S/M is authentic: whipping, pissing, beating, shaving, bondage, groveling, abused asses. The men are very masculine, very real. Yes, there are hard-ons, but as S/M devotes will attest, it’s the scene not the sex that counts.”

Director Roger Earl, who received the 2009 GAYVN Lifetime Achievement Award, discovered and cast Val Martin as the lead in the movie. The film brought Martin international acclaim in gay leather communities. In 1980 he was named second runner-up in the International Mr Leather competition.

In addition to Martin, Born to Raise Hell features Quave Dalton, John Detour, Steve Richards, Eric Lansing, Tiger John, David Andrews, Paul Joseph and Craig Roberts. The restored and re-mastered DVD runs 85 minutes and incorporates scenes of bondage, flogging, verbal abuse, shaving, fisting and watersports.
