Girlfriends' June Charity Selection Aids Victims of Hurricane Sandy

VALENCIA, Calif.—Performer/director Melissa Monet is using June’s Charity of the Month selection to help an organization close to her heart. A native of Staten Island, New York, Monet chooses the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to receive $1,000 from Girlfriends Films.  Monet worked with the charity directly after Hurricane Sandy decimated Staten Island, and the money will help further relief efforts.

“I would like to thank Dan, Moose, and the entire team at Girlfriends Films for their generosity and kindness,” said Monet.  “It’s because of donations like that the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is able to continue its efforts in the recovery of Staten Island. Every month Girlfriends Films chooses a charity suggested by an adult actress that is near and dear to their hearts, and every Christmas they choose ten more for holiday donations. I am proud and humbled Girlfriends Films has once again asked me to choose a charity I feel is doing so much to help so many. Thank you.”

After Hurricane Sandy hit Monet’s hometown on October 29, 2012, killing 14 and destroying numerous neighborhoods, the adult icon made the decision to return and help in the relief efforts.  While her family was safe, many childhood friends and families she knew her whole life lost their homes, cars, and more. Monet drove cross-country several times to take part in the clean-up efforts.

Monet’s desire to help led her to Tunnel to Towers, about which she said, “These beautiful people, all volunteers themselves, gave months of their lives to help others.  I have never felt or witnessed more love than I did with Tunnel to Towers. Items were given out, but it was hugs that prevailed when shocked victims walked in with no answers, nowhere to go, no heat, no food, and no homes. They turned victims into survivors by empowering the people to move forward. In the aftermath of the storm, Tunnels to Towers was thinking ahead: gutting, mold remediation, and rebuilding was next on the list. It is a rare opportunity to work with such an amazing group of people, and I feel blessed to have had this opportunity.”

“We always encourage those involved with our charity program to select a cause dear to them,” stated Girlfriends Films Vice President Moose.  “Melissa definitely did that by helping to give back to her hometown.  We feel privileged to be a part of Melissa’s mission to assist her community.”

Recent Girlfriends Films movies starring Melissa Monet include Lesbian Sex 2 and Lesbian Seductions Older/Younger 35.  Monet also directed Strays and To Protect and to Serve.

Girlfriends Films has a long history of charitable contributions, having donated over $20,000 in 2012.  Each month a performer, director, or industry principal is selected as part of the studio’s charity program, and a donation of $1,000 is given to a philanthropic organization of their choice.  For more information, click here.
